Family Advocacy Support Service (FASS)

FASS face-to face support is currently available at the Wollongong Federal Circuit Court Monday to Friday from 9am - 4pm, or you can contact them on 1800 11 3277 or email FASS@womenillawarra.org.au

The Illawarra Family Advocacy Support Service is located within the Wollongong Federal Circuit Court, Level 1, 43 Burelli Street Wollongong. 

We are available to assist women who are affected by family violence and have a family law issue. Other family members like grandparents can also use our services. We can help you if you:

  • Have experienced family violence, or

  • Someone says you have used violence. 

Our support workers can work with you to: 

 

Social Support

  • Identify what you need help with

  • Connect you with the most appropriate support services

  • Help you to understand your legal problems and the choices you have

  • Give you information and support during your family law case

  • Advocate for you with organisation’s like Police, Housing and Victims Services

  • Assist you in accessing support payments 

  • Support you in applying for an Apprehended Violence Order

  • Safety planning at home and at court

  • Speak to the Family Law Courts about your safety at court

Legal Support

  • Sorting out arrangements for children

  • Getting an Apprehended Violence Order

  • Getting a divorce

  • Getting child support

  • Sorting out problems with DCJ Children

  • Getting victims support

  • Sorting out other legal problems you may have from experiencing family violence. 

    They can also: 

    • Give you legal advice

    • Help with court documents

    • Appear for you in court in some cases

    • Find you a lawyer if you need help for an ongoing case

 
 

The FASS team can also work with your support worker to support you with your case and improve your safety.

Support can be given even if your ex-partner is getting help from another part of Legal Aid NSW. They can’t share the information you give them unless you tell them they can. More information can be found on the Legal Aid NSW website or by clicking the button below.
